Is Paid Leave Expensive?

Research suggests paid leave programs are of negligible cost to employers and are a boost to employee morale and productivity.

But the U.S. is the only industrialized nation in the world that doesn’t mandate paid leave for new parents — a distinction it shares with Oman and Papua New Guinea.

Women in the U.S. get paid family leave benefits only if they work in a state or for a company that provides those benefits.
